Interactive metronome®
Interactive Metronome® (IM) is an evidence-based assessment and training tool proven to improve rhythm and timing, cognition, attention, focus, memory, executive functioning, as well as motor & sensory skills. It combines the concept of a musical metronome with advanced computerized technology to improve the foundational skills necessary for learning and development.
Training phase (Phase 1)
The aim in phase one is to decrease the person’s millisecond scores to about 40 milliseconds. This means that the person can respond to the metronome beat within 40 milliseconds. We complete between 12 to 15 one-hour sessions, depending on the person’s scores and progress.
·This is a rigorous training programme which directly influences neural timing in the brain, which is situated in the temporal area of the brain.
Cognitive loading phase (Phase 2)
·During phase two we complete two 20 minute tasks which require multi-tasking, working memory, sequencing and motor planning. An important principle is integration of skills i.e. clapping to the beat (keeping the rhythm/timing) while performing a higher cognitive task.
·Neuroplasticity is the principle of the programme which means high intensity (amount of repetitions per session) and high frequency (3 to 5 times per week) of repetitions into the neural system.
·IM® is backed by many research studies that are available in the areas of motor, speech and academic improvements.
IM® can be used to treat children and adults with difficulties related to motor planning, sequencing and auditory attention
